Security Systems Technician I

Description:

Summary: Installs, troubleshoots and works with all aspects of hardware installation and maintenance of the Door Access System, Key Watch System, locks and any other system assigned to the Security Systems Administrator. Repairs mechanical, electrical and electronic failures and does proper maintenance of various Security Systems.

The intent of this position description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by this position. Employee(s) may be required to perform position-related tasks other than those specifically listed in this description.

Essential Job Functions:
• Installs new access control equipment, performs repairs and updates to existing access control equipment. Installs new key watch equipment, performs repairs and updates to existing key watch equipment. Installs and/or replaces secured locks and cylinder receivers, performs maintenance and repairs to existing locked areas, Troubleshoot, inspect, diagnose, remove and / or replace Printed Circuit Boards, EPROM chips and other electronic and micro-electronic circuitry as it applies to Security Systems.
• Performs periodic maintenance including, but not limited to cleaning, repairing and or replacing card readers, secured lock cylinders, door strikes, VCR heads, plastic camera covers, key watch receivers and contacts, Smart Key chip contacts, adjusts locks on doors and cash drawers, replace burned out lamps in exit buttons and door in use indicators, repair or replace problem secured cylinders. Soldering, connecting wires and completing circuits.
• Efficiently and safely operates tools including, but not limited to various power tools, ladders, various hand tools, soldering equipment, volt meters, multi-meters, power supplies, interfacing computer operated monitoring and troubleshooting programs.
• Relocates existing cable and run new cable in support of the door access and key watch systems, connects controllers, relocates controllers and any required reconfiguration of the those systems.
• Works well with internal associates and external contractors and or vendors, also works independently, on any of the Security Systems or tasks assigned.
• Monitors performance indicators such as system's response time, to ensure that system is operating efficiently. Escalates hardware and software problems to the Security Systems Administrator or his Assistant.
• Answers customer inquiries in person and via telephone concerning system operation. Recommends or performs minor repairs to correct problems based on knowledge of system operation.
• Remains abreast of changes in access control system and key watcher system requirements and makes recommendations for future software and hardware purchases. Attends technical training to keep abreast of new security software and hardware product developments.
• Works closely with Information Services and Surveillance team members on projects and tasks.
• Must maintain proper documentation of repair logs, periodic maintenance logs, supply expenditures and forward requests for supply replenishment to the Security Systems Administrator and / or the Assistant.
• This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

• This is a 24/7 operation that requires working on weekends & Holidays and on-call conditions.

Required Knowledge of:
• Computer based analytical responsibilities using a data reporting system.
• Manual and Computerized Building and Key Access Control Systems, Security Operations, Regulation and Control of Keys and Property.
• Wiring schematics and building plans.
• Soldering electrical components.
• Circuit boards.

Qualifications:

Required Skill in:
• Microsoft Excel and Word in a Microsoft Windows based environment.
• Customer service.
• Organizing work duties and work area.
• Independently analyzing, troubleshooting, and resolving problems.
• Verbal and written communication.
• Adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Education, Experience, Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications:
• High School Diploma or equivalent, and two (2) years related experience and/or training with hands on Electronics and or Computer related communication, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• High security gaming license issued by the Grand Ronde Gaming Commission

Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements:
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; climb ladders, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk and hear. Work is subject to frequent walking, intermittent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, high, precarious places, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to tobacco smoke.
